Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing number of parents choosing Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions for their children. Lack of understanding of the types and levels of education in Islamic boarding schools often triggers misunderstandings between ideals and reality. Therefore, finding out more about the reasons behind parents' decisions in choosing Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions for their children will make it easier for researchers to study more deeply the motivations of parents in choosing Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions for their children.

The purpose of this study is to find out how parents' knowledge of education at the Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School and the Raudlatul Muta'allimin Al-Baisuny Islamic Boarding School? To find out what motivates parents in choosing the Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School and the Raudlatul Muta'allimin Al-Baisuny Islamic Boarding School as their Children's Educational Institutions? This study uses a qualitative approach, namely research that focuses on social phenomena and on providing voices of feelings and perceptions from participants under the study, for example behavior, motivation, actions and so on by describing the motivation of parents in choosing Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions for children through the process of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the analysis in this study can be concluded as follows: First, Parents' Knowledge of Education at the Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School and the Raudlatul Muta'allimin Al-Baisuny Islamic Boarding School is only limited to religious education that teaches religious knowledge, both memorizing the Qur'an and instilling religious values. Second, the motivation of parents to choose the Nurul Falah and Raudlatul Muta'allimin Al-Baisuny Islamic Boarding Schools is due to the need factor, namely the need for security and the need for self-actualization. In addition, it is also caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors
