Indonesia has the highest number of HIV/AIDS sufferers in Southeast Asia at 540,000 people. HIV/AIDS is still a problem in Indonesia with the highest risk factor for transmission through heterosexual relations. A serodiscordant PLWHA couple is a relationship between a PLWHA couple (husband or wife) with the status of one partner being infected with HIV (HIV positive) and the other partner not being infected with HIV (HIV negative). Serodiscordant couples have the hope of being able to live a normal life like other couples who do not suffer from HIV. They still want to fulfill their biological needs, especially sexual needs, even with a partner who suffers from HIV.
